Grade 6
Room #902
In my 23nd year as a teacher I am excited to be in a Sixth Grade classroom at Oak Grove School. Over those 22 years I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th graders as well as high school students. My first loves are teaching US History and sixth grade math, but have taught a wide range of subjects: English, US History, World History, Ancient History, yearbook, journalism, creative writing, video production, sixth grade science, computer science and technology, and high school classes for students needing to make up missed class credits.
I am a gigantic lover of Scicon and look forward every year with great anticipation to spending five days there with my students. Away from the classroom I love traveling with my wife Danette, a teacher at Porterville Adult School and Kaweah Delta Medical Center. San Francisco, Yosemite, Alaska, and UCLA football games are our favorite destinations. I have four children: Ross, Katie, Brook, and Cassy; and two grandchildren, Jade, the best, cutest little girl in the whole world, and Sawyer, the best, cutest little boy in the whole world. I also love spending time with our two border collies Rufus and Kingston; and two kittens, Denali and Moose. I am a mountain lover, but have fallen in love with Alaska. (They have mountains there, too.) An insatiable reader, I will always be just beginning, in the middle of, or having just completed reading a history book. There are over 300 history books in my personal library.
I possess a Multiple Subject teaching credential, a Social Science single subject teaching credential, an administrative services credential, a single subject supplemental authorization in English, a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, and a Master's degree in Educational Administration. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a professional photographer and writer, 12 years for the Porterville Recorder. I also serve as secretary for Burton Elementary Teachers Association and Media Coordinator for the Burton School District. I firmly believe “Calvin and Hobbs” is the best comic strip of all time.

My Goals |
|
Technology
To further integrate technology where appropriate into our learning day via Google Classroom, classroom blogs, Quizlet, Google Docs, Google Draw, and Google Presentations. I am yet unsure if it is ultimately obtainable or educationally appropriate, but we are working toward becoming more and more a paperless classroom.

Student/teacher Relationships
Beginning my teaching journey in 1993, I have been privileged to share in the lives of more than 4,100 students. As each human being is unique I have enjoyed more than 4,100 unique student-teacher relationships. I love my job because I love my students – all of them. They always were and always will be “my kids.” It is my goal to continue these great personal relationships by giving to each student what they need to excel.

Peers
To be available for my fellow classroom toilers in areas of leadership, workplace and union contract protections, and whatever I can share with them from my 22 years of experience. We are stronger individuals as a team
